Way back in 1992 the founding Zenners made their first trip
to Camp Perry for the National Matches. Most of us had started high power and
shot together since the mid-80's. However this was our first leap into the fires
of national level competition. For years 1992-93 our local club sponsored the
team by providing funding in the form of team match entry fees. But while they
covered us for 1993 it was made clear they no longer would after that
season. At the completion of the '93 nationals on the Thursday evening of
the awards ceremony after many cigars, steaks on the grill, and maybe a few
beers the Zen Shooting Team was born. John Weller who is currently the
organizations Vice President is credited for the team name. The National Matches
of 1994 saw the first official entry of the Zen Shooting Team. The below picture
is of that original group.

Little did we know that one day the club would grow to become one of the best known shooting teams in NRA High Power. As of this writing (11/02) the club has 70+ members in 8 states! The Zen Team colors and logo are worn by high power shooters on many ranges nationwide. We have truly become a NATIONAL LEVEL shooting club comprised of many who hold titles of National Champion, High Master, Distinguished Rifleman, Presidents 100. Love us or hate but there can be no denying the accomplishments of our shooters.

The above picture was taken the year of the teams' first ever win in national competition. If memory serves right it was 1995. The event was the Rumbold Team Match. It is a four man team event held during the NRA Championships. We took the Silver Medal in Expert Class, Service Rifle, Local Club Division. Standing are members Chuck, Sean, John and Mark. Kneeling are Mike (coach) and Gary (scorer).
